Emergency Services

911 Service

911 service is available throughout the APEDC region for response to all emergencies.

Fire Department

Volunteer Fire Department Services are available throughout the APEDC region.  All departments provide backup to neighboring areas through a mutual aid agreement.

The Town of Russell, RM of Russell and Village of Binscarth work together to provide fire services in this area and a portion of the RM of Silver Creek. Three modern fire trucks, a Rescue Unit including the “Jaws of Life”, ambulance transport van and 16 volunteer firefighters comprise the Russell & District Fire Department with an addition 15 members in Binscarth.

Inglis has 15 volunteer firefighters and an area of coverage of 10 1⁄2 townships.  There are two fire trucks available and three portable pumps, a porta tank and rescue van.

Angusville has two fire trucks and 13-21 volunteer firefighters.  A 1500 gallon porta tank is available for use along with one portable pump and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

RCMP

The first Russell Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment opened in 1932 with two members.  In 1989, a new office was opened with eight regular members and one public servant.  Russell detachment has now consolidated with Roblin and Rossburn Detachments and operates as Prairie Mountain Detachment.  Russell Detachment is the Host Office with Rossburn and Roblin members being Community Offices.  Prairie Mountain has nineteen regular members and three clerical staff and serve the area formerly served by the three units.

Emergency Measures Organization

The mandate of the EMO is to plan for an event which will require the combined efforts of the emergency services and to act as a coordination and resource base in a time of major emergency.  These groups are made up of volunteers, with the exception of the Emergency Coordinator.

Active EMO exists in each of the Municipalities of the APEDC region.  A coordinator and Emergency Measures Plan is in place for the RM of Shellmouth-Boulton and through a partnership arrangement within the Village of Binscarth, the Town of Russell, the R.M. of Russell, and RM of Silver Creek.
