Assiniboine Community College

Assiniboine Community College was established its Parkland Southwest Regional Centre in Russell in 1992.

The College has several programs that can be rotated to rural communities, including the Parkland Southwest Regional Centre in Russell, if there is sufficient student demand. Participating students will pay the same tuition fees as those at the Brandon or Parkland campuses. The rotating programs include: General Business Certificate, Comprehensive Health Care Aide Certificate and Practical Nursing.

Assiniboine Community College also offers a variety of continuing education programs and courses under its Community Learning department. The role of the Community Learning department is to provide leadership in development and enhancement of community and lifelong learning. Various methods are used to deliver community learning activity.

An Adult Learning Centre is scheduled to open at the Assiniboine College in Russell in the Fall of 2002. The Centre's programming is designed for individuals who want to achieve a Mature Student High School Diploma in order to meet entrance requirements for post-secondary education or to increase their competitiveness in the job market. In addition, on some courses students will receive credit towards some programs at Assiniboine Community College.

Local needs determine the types of programs offered and training programs are tailored to meet the needs of local employers. The Centre's graduates enhance their employment opportunities without leaving the community. Many students continue working while attending College in Russell.
